What are Energy Affinities..?

Energy affinities are what is essentially the natural comfort zone of a character in terms of energy usage.

A character with an 'Affinity' for an energy will generally be capable of sensing it, and this may influence the properties of some of their techniques. (Example, a Saiyan using God Ki will be able to utilize the properties of God Ki in their basic techniques)

It is possible for some races to learn other energy types, but you can certain that some will simply be better at others for particular affinities.

Make sure you look at every race's affinities to know what they excel at!!

Please note that these are for flavor - there is no system in place to measure affinity besides it being a writer's tool.

KI TYPES

Ki is the latent energy and "Life Force" of all living beings in the universe. A tangible energy that can be mastered to increase one's battle power and access a variety of techniques and abilities.

Within Dragon Ball, Ki splits into three categories, all of which function similarly, yet always carry some sort of unique property.

Below are the three main categories of Ki and their specifics within the Dragon Ball Cosmos!

KI

The basic Ki type is the neutral form of Ki used by anyone who can harness it. It is the natural state of most energy and is one of the more common energy types used.

Most earthlings, as well as most beings in the universe as a whole, possess and can learn to use Ki.

Sometimes, Ki that is exceptionally pure (whether it be through Genki influence or God Ki) from a good-hearted individual can accumulate “Plus Energy,” which can negate and nullify any type of inferior Jaki, as it is laced in “Negative Karma Energy."

This type of Ki can be described as warm - often easily expressing the emotional state of the user.

JAKI

Ki manifested by those who hold a strong combination of evil and ambition in their hearts. Jaki becomes a permanent fixture to those who are unable to overcome corruption - however, a person who becomes righteous can change it into regular Ki.

When Jaki exists in massively high concentrations from a powerful, evil source, it can form “Minus Energy” or “Negative Karma Energy,” which can intensify into Dark Energy when the user gains Godly Ki.

That said, some creatures seem to possess this sort of Ki naturally: The demons of the Demon Realm seem to carry this while not all may seem to be necessarily evil.

Those who can sense this sort of Ki describe it as cold and wicked. It reacts strongly to a user's feelings of anger.

GOD

Godly Ki occurs when a user is touched by Divinity or achieves Godhood. Whether it be through a Ritual or Divine Tempering, normal Ki evolves into Godly Ki.

This type of Ki can only be sensed by other users of God Ki or Light Energy users. And while mortals lack the ability to comprehend it, they do feel an extremely high natural pressure from it.

Godly Ki is a much, much more superior form of Ki to normal Ki, carrying within it greater output. In addition, it carries special properties such as being exceptionally pure in nature, possessing the ability to heal oneself, and resuscitating others fully.

Those who can sense this sort of Ki describe it as peaceful, yet capable of bursting with white hot heat.

KI STYLES

Ki Styles are what defines the nature of a Ki technique or ability. The two types of Ki below make all the difference between how Ki functions. Warriors will often have a natural inclination towards certain types of techniques.

This applies to Ki, Jaki, Dark Ki, and God Ki

Burst Style

The Burst Style Ki focuses on raw power, large blasts, and power-ups! Their techniques range from Blast to BLAST, or occasionally BlastBlastBlast. However, truly skilled warriors who prefer this method of Ki usage can become adept at using their Ki a little creatively - able to create mines, explosive rings, grenades, and long blades.

Spirit Style

The Spirit Style of Ki usage is oriented towards 'Finesse.' This style of Ki techniques focus on disrupting an opponent's Ki, transmuting Ki into elements, making illusions, splitting into clones of their body, and much much more. If it doesn't fall under BLAST, then it's likely a 'Spirit Style' technique.

Magical Energies

MYSTICAL POWER

Magic is a known but not always described phenomenom in the Dragon Ball multiverse. Many beings seem to excel at it, but its nature is still not fully understood.

Magic is flexible, though outside of the Demon Realm it seems to be primarily as a tool for supportive techniques - including healing, conjuration, transmutation, and sealing.

Yet, some forms of magic can also be employed offensively. The members of the Demon Realm often employ it in combination with weapons, and some outside the Demon Realm, such as in Universe 2, have learned to utilize a form of magic best known as the 'Power of Love.' Supreme Kais are also trained to use magic techniques as part of their arsenal.

It is important to note, however, that Magic - although it pulls from the same 'Life Force' as Ki - is functionally different from Ki. A practitioner skilled in magic may struggle to utilize Ki beyond Basic techniques.

'Mystical Energy', like pure Ki, is the most 'neutral' of the two other types of magical energies that exists in the universe and is the basis for 'Magic'.

POWER OF LIGHT

Power of Light carries extremely similar properties as "Godly Ki" and is the basis for 'White Magic' that is typically used by the Glinds.

It exists as a natural antithesis and potent remedy against Dark Energy. The Power of Light can overwhelm the Power of Darkness even with smaller concentrations and fully purify a being that was forcibly corrupted by Darkness.

The Power of Light can be considered the force in the universe involved in the nurture of life - while the Power of Darkness is one that twists it to its bidding.

The Power of Light is incapable of being sensed by mortals and can only be properly utilized by Glinds or other appointed cosmic entities - though in some instances, mortals can be temporarily granted the capability usually in the form of Godly Ki or through the influence of a Supreme Kai.

POWER OF DARKNESS

A wicked ambient mystical energy that exists primarily in the Demon Realm and is the basis for 'Black Magic' spell usage that is typically used by demons. This powerful, chaotic form of energy is known for its destructive properties and ability to bend and break more than just the laws of physics.

It is the 'corrupted' state of Power of Light. Much like Jaki is corrupted “Normal Ki,” the Power of Darkness is “Power of Light” whose nature has been warped by an ambition. This malignant power can infect those who venture those too close like a virus -- often warping the victim's mind and changing the hues of their Ki to evil.

Many demons actually choose to avoid the more raw forms of Darkness (The Sea of Darkness) for that very reason. Inexperienced Magi will often find themselves lost to the negativity the Power of Darkness brings forth.
